Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI)

Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with a pungent odor, and it will slowly turn yellow under ultraviolet light. It can react with hydroxyl, water, amine and other compounds containing active hydrogen, and can self-polymerize under certain conditions to form urethane, urea, biuret, isocyanurate, etc. TDI chemical is an important raw material for polyurethane.

Soluble in ether, acetone and other organic solvents. Reacts with water to form carbon dioxide. It can react with compounds containing active hydrogen and has high activity. It can burn when exposed to open fire, and release toxic gas when it is decomposed by high heat. It is poisonous and highly irritating to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Generally, the maximum allowable concentration in the air is 0.02ppm.

TDI toluene diisocyanate has six isomers, they are 2,3-TDI, 2,4-TDI, 2,5-TDI, 2,6-TDI, 3,4-TDI, 3,5-TDI. Among them, both 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI are the most common, and industrial toluene diisocyanate tdi is usually a mixture of 2,4-TDI and 2,6-TDI.

Main Applications of Toluene Diisocyanate TDI

It is used as a raw material for various polyurethane materials such as flexible foam plastics, coatings, cast elastomers, paving materials, waterproof coatings and adhesives.

TDI can be made into modified TDI, dimer, trimer, adduct prepolymer, etc.
